We have been members of NEBC for over 10 years, and NEBC plays an integral part in planning our store's assortments.  With competition so sharp in the textbook category, maximizing our non-text areas is a major focus.  The NEBC program offer savings in virtually every category of merchandise we sell, from clothing, supplies and imprinted novelties to electronics, backpacks and giftware.  The vendors are leaders in the industry, and their NEBC programs offer significant savings which can include reduced costs, lower minimums, freight concessions, reduced or free art/set-up charges or coop advertising monies.

And the best part is that annual membership is only $75 per year!  How can any store afford not to be a member?

I joined NEBC in 1999.  My dues are recovered in just one vendor order. NEBC is a tremendous bargain at only $75 a year.  NEBC gives me the competitive advantage that my institutional store needs.

The Bowdoin Bookstore has been a member of the NEBC Buying Consortium since around the time it was founded in 1992.  The membership fee is only $75.00 a year, and we re-coup that fee, and save hundreds of dollars more each year utilizing the specials that are offered to the membership from our approved vendors.

I feel that our school has a voice in the vendor selection process, and it really helps to attend the annual February selection meeting.  Not only is it great to be a part of this valuable and informative process, but the networking with other stores and hearing their input on the quality and diversity of the merchandise, the specials offered by the vendors, and what is happening in the Bookstore retail industry is so important when attending these meetings and making these important buying decisions.

NEBC now has approximately 374 stores which represent a lot of schools that are focusing on their bottom line, environmental and social concerns, diversity and quality of products and high expectations for great customer service from our vendors when making their buying decisions. Our approved vendors benefit as well and develop a partnership with member stores.  The voice of 374 college bookstores is strong and I would encourage anyone, vendor or institutionally operated bookstore, to join this wonderful organization.
